A Night in Manhattan 40th Birthday Party

Oh how I loved styling this themed A Night in Manhattan 40th Birthday Party. It’s no secret that I am a lover of black and white stripes. And with this theme, it’s exactly what’s needed to bring this party to life. The original Night in Manhattan theme is usually yellow with black and white stripes… However for this 40th Birthday Party, my wonderful client, Alayne, was so in love with touches of pinks! She was truly torn between a Chanel Theme Party with pink flowers or a Night in Manhattan with touches of yellow. To make her beautiful heart happy, we decided to add a twist to the theme by incorporating the pink flowers instead of yellow.

A Night in Manhattan 40th Birthday Party Venue Selection

When my client asked me for a venue recommendation for her 40th birthday party, one very specific venue came to mind immediately and that’s the Platinum Sky in Sandton. The venue is situated on the 12th floor and the view of the cityscape is absolutely magnificent! This venue has 180 degree views of the Sandton skyline and truly comes to life once the sun sets. If it’s a stormy night, then you are in for a treat watching the lightning strikes.

A Night in Manhattan 40th Birthday Party Decor Set Up

So for the decor, no doubt we were going to pick full length black and white striped tablecloths. A full black and white striped tablecloth usually makes a bolder statement than just a black and white striped runner… In my humble opinion, runners is on a slow death at the moment. I prefer mirror runners or bases or even floral runners. Material runners… I think it’s seen better days.

Mirror bases it was for this 40th birthday celebration. We played with a variety of black vases to create different heights. We opted for black glasses and black under plates. Tall candle holders adorned the tables as well as candle votive. Once the sun sets, we wanted to ensure that the lights were low and the candles lit so that the guests could enjoy the spectacular view. Up lights were also scattered all over the venue to ensure the ambiance was carried through the night.

Each table were named to a city in New York keeping to the theme. Table seating were sorted and guest knew whether they were sitting at the Manhattan Table or the Madison Square table. My client opted for a two tier cake positioned in front of a personalized Manhattan cityscape backdrop. For the cake table, we used a gorgeous black fully sequinced tablecloths and it looked quite stunning. The cake was beautifully placed on an embossed cake stand.

Of course, a black and white dance floor was a must! Have a look at the photos and leave your thoughts.
