This Ice Cream Shoppe 5th Birthday Party is a special one.. Because it was my princess’s birthday. My daughter looks forward to her party from day one of the year as I am an event planner mom. So she watches me plan back to back parties and naturally expect a party for herself. Every year we say that’s the last party – next year will be something sweet and simple. But no… It’s always a tea party happening every single year.
This year I (being the over-exhausted mom) decided no party at all. I will just bake some goodies and send it to school as it’s her first year. But not a chance when she has dad wrapped around her little finger.. My hubby wanted a big do! I said no and he said it’s expected of me as I am a party planner! So the planning started. Hubby wanted a braai and well.. if I am going to plan a party… might as well do it properly.
My daughter chose a Katherine Sabbath cake. So the party was inspired by the cake and that’s how Mahdiya’s Ice Cream Shoppe came about. I think this theme is the perfect summer theme. Both my son and daughter are so into drip cakes. Ask them what cake they want for their birthday, it’s a drip cake! I think they are quite in tune with the trends!
Ice Cream Shoppe 5th Birthday Party Decor Details
I wanted to keep it simple yet elegant. My aim was retro with a dash of gold. The colour scheme was fun and summery – mint green, soft pink and a touch of gold. I loved the gold as it just brought out the elegance. The ice cream cones which hung over the dessert table were custom made for Outlandish Events. I opted for a gold backdrop with green and pink paper flowers.
I love love love love sparkly tulle. The dessert table was laid in a sparkly mint one. I designed a bunting that says “Mahdiya’s Ice Cream Shoppe”. The decor included gorgeous white frames with Happy 5th birthday Mahdiya placed on the dessert table instead of a usual happy birthday bunting.
The Katherine Sabbath inspired cake was absolutely delicious. It was burfee flavoured and if you are a lover of burfee, then this cake is for you. We had ice cream shaped cookies and sundae cupcakes! Cake pops were just as gorgeous as the cake. Of course, what’s a party without macarons and meringue kisses!
The Rietvlei Zoo was the perfect venue for us. We booked a lapa and each lapa had its own play area and braai stands. This venue is quite the ideal place if you want an informal and relaxed day out. Our family loves going on picnics and the kids love the open space to run and play. The Rietvlei Zoo Farm have a lot of activities to keep the kids entertained all day long. Some of the activities were kids zipline, tractor rides, pony rides and so much more. The venue does have a very reasonable entrance fee and you definitely get more than what you paid for.
The Ice Cream Bar
For dessert, it was only fitting to have an ice cream bar and taking into consideration the weather. We had a variety of toppings and ice cream available. Sugar Cones or wafer baskets, anyone could make their own creations.
It was a wonderful hot day – the weather turned out beautiful! My daughter was thrilled that it was her turn to be pampered. She was quite overjoyed to play “the client” for a change! As much as it’s a lot of hard work arranging any event, seeing my daughter’s face light up with all the details and special requests she had for her special day, was so worthwhile…
For party favours, we had personalised candy floss as well as Maverick & Jane gourmet popcorn for each child.
